Shadow justice secretary the shadow minister has labeled the circumstances as a "total shambles," commenting earlier today.

Speaking during a radio program, he pointed to remarks made by David Lammy after a previous prisoner release, saying that the minister would implement stricter verifications.

"There was a delay of six days for the corrections department reportedly to even become aware this has happened" and inform the police, the shadow official explains, "who are now a week behind in the manhunt to find him."

The shadow minister condemns Lammy's handling during yesterday's PMQs and alleges him of a "complete dereliction of duty."

Addressing incorrect inmate discharges in broader terms, Jenrick emphasizes that "every single mistaken discharge [...] is unacceptable."

He acknowledges there were similar incidents under the previous Conservative government, but says the figure "has increased dramatically" under the current government.

Calling for more prisons to be built, he continues: "The public want to see now are proper checks implemented."

"This represents a particular bureaucratic error by the justice department overseen by David Lammy," Jenrick says.
